It was only a few years ago that the idea behind starting a 3D Printer company was born. It came as a result of a Valentine’s day gift and grew from there.
In February of 2014, Shelley Warner gifted her husband, Glenn, with a 3D printer. This gift fueled their imagination and they were captivated by the endless possibilities in creating and printing things throughout their home and businesses. They relished in the ability to print many handy items, from parts for broken appliances, to one of a kind cookie cutters.
Their creativity came to an abrupt halt not long after when the 3D printer quickly broke from normal use. They were disappointed but determined to purchase a second machine, as they had grown so accustomed to utilizing their printer on a daily basis. Unfortunately, it was not long before the second printer also failed and would no longer print. It was at this time that Glenn dove into researching how to fix his printer and discovered that subpar printers were an industry norm and that it had grown acceptable to 3D printing enthusiasts that a printer would not work long term with normal wear and tear.
It was then that Glenn Warner’s engineering background, coupled with Shelley’s keen business sense and creativity, came to the forefront and they decided that they were going to build 3D printers. Not just any 3D printers, but printers that were built for longevity and would serve their intended purpose far longer than any other units on the market. It was then that GorillaMaker was born.
Their first model, the GM3D500, boasted many features that far exceeded the norms for personal and commercial 3D printers and quickly made it a favorite 3D printer in the industry. These features included all exterior powder coated aluminum, all metal parts, and professional controls, over one cubic foot build area, a polymer heated bed, and all metal hot end.
Also key to the GorillaMaker mindset, they built a quality professional series printer acceptable to manufacturing and prototype shops, that was priced so that it would be affordable to teachers, educators, and librarians. Add in that all GorillaMaker models come with an outstanding two-year limited warranty and user training. Customers were “over the moon”. GorillaMaker dared to do what others could not, or would not do.
GorillaMaker’s 2015 appearance at the World’s Largest Maker Faire in New York confirmed that they had truly captured the 3D print market. They were a hit with conference attendees, including the attending representatives from Intel, NASA, Stanford and MIT. This conference lead to the sale of many GorillaMaker 3D Printers and a place in the industry that allows GorillaMaker to thrive in the current 3D print market space.
Since then, GorillaMaker has continued to innovate and create quality 3D printers that are affordable. We back up every model with a two-year limited warranty and end-user training. We have recently rolled out our Extended Warranty Program and have taken our training to the next level by providing continuing education and 3D printing-specific online education through our online portal GorillaMakerU.com.
